PTSD Dog Training:

PTSD is an anxiety disorder that develops as a result of a traumatic experience and involves symptoms of vigilance (i.e., being extra alert and aware of surroundings); numbness (i.e., having difficulty feeling emotions), and re-experiencing (i.e., flashbacks and nightmares).

Many of our military personnel returning from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have been traumatized by their experiences in the war zones.  While the majority struggle with their experiences, most will not go on to develop post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Thank you for your service to our country.

There is no cure for PTSD at the present time but many people have a lessened severity of the symptoms by seeking the assistance of a PTSD or a Therapy Dog. Many studies have shown the benefits of having a PTSD dog has been valuable for the treatment and overall well being of those suffering from PTSD. PTSD is also not just reserved for soldiers but people of all ages and walks of life having dealt with a traumatic situation  and that are suffering from a post-traumatic stress disorder.

How PTSD Dogs can help you in a time of need:

  • Dogs are vigilant.
  • Dogs are protective
  • Dogs love unconditionally.
  • Dogs help relearn trust.
  • Dogs help to remember feelings of love.
  • Dogs can break the cycle by licking or by nudging you to "snap" out of the stressful situations.

The type of breed does not matter, Chihuahuas to German Shepherds and, yes, even Pit Bulls can be PTSD dogs. Building a valuable friendship and partnership is what matters most. If you would like to see if your dog can bring the love and the joy back into your life, please call and we'll get things back on track. Unfortunately, we do not provide PTSD dogs. If your dog qualifies and shows that they have the ability, then your dog can take this training course after our Basic Obedience.
